Hi Everyone,
I'm Christine and I just had the surgery this past Monday (8/21). I'm having some problems with gas...can anyone offer any advices?
Also--when can I expect to feel somewhat human again? I feel pretty awful.

My best advice is-WALK, WALK, and then WALK some more! The more you move around, the more the gas will move, and eventually it shall pass!
As far as feeling human again-it's different for each of us, but I think the average is a week or so. I remember wondering what the heck I had done to myself. I think we all say that at one point or another. I just kept saying that I couldn't wait to get to the place where I could say I was thrilled that I had done this, and would do it again in a heartbeat, like everyone else at the support group meetings was saying. Thankfully, I did get there! You will, too!
Hang in there. It will get better! See you soon.

Hi Christine, I agree with Nanette - walking will get the gas moving! Nice warm showers felt good too. Also, try to get off the pain med ASAP - switch to Tylenol when you need to. I used 4 Junior Tylenol that dissolves in your mouth - the grape flavored is good (the pain meds really made me feel rotten). Between walking and resting get in as much fluids as you can & protein supplements. My surgery was 8/3and, I feel pretty good now - I tire easily, but exercising makes me feel more energized. I got the Weigh2Win Bariatric Workout & do the 20min Level 1 part every morning & walk in the afternoon. Everyday is better than the one before. Darla

I to agree with the above statements. Walking makes such a difference. That is why we old timers tell everyone to walk, walk, walk. We know what it is like to have that gas. We know that if you walk it helps.
Now if after doing all of that and if it is still bad then call Dr Allam. Tell him your symptoms and let him decide what to do next.
Good luck and keep us posted.
