OK - is it true that the protein drinks lose their nutritional "goodness" soon after being opened?? I'm worried about opening a $3.00 can and only being able to use 1-2 oz's of it before it is no good. Can I freeze small portions of the can and use as needed if this is so??

Hi sissy,
No the shakes will not lose their strength as long as you do not heat them up.
Yo u can try to freeze the cans howeverI don't know if they will freeze because of some of the ingredoients.

seNote5F Hi Pat. It's been a very long time since I've seen you. My surgery was postponed for so long that my original paper and notes from when I met you are long gone. I finally had it a few days ago (12/21/06). I remember much of what you said, but specifics are sadly gone.

Could you refresh my memory about the kind of protein drinks that you prefer me to use? I kind of recall something that came in a can and was shake consistancy, but I could be mistaken. Any specifics that you could send me would be greatly appreciated. I remember the yogurt smoothies that you recommended; they were the same ones we always had in the house anyway, so that was easy, but I'm so afraid that I might be doing something wrong.

I'm on, what I guess you might call, stage one and a half. I'm maintly still on clear liquids with an occasional foray into full liquids. Mostly, I just sip my protein drink, or decaf tea. I tend to nibble a little yogurt in the morning, clear broth in the evening. My husband bought me some applesauce, but my little boys decimated it. It was quite amusing. They had an applesauce feast on the kitchen floor.

I feel as though I'm all alone on this message board. Everywhere I go, there has been no posting for over thirty days, so I don't even know if you'll receive this, but Nanette said it was still viable to post here, so I'm trying. Assuming that you get this, Happy New Year to you and yours. In fact, Happy New Year to all...

In Vino Veritas,
Jan Yo62

Hi Jan,
Congrats on finally having the surgery. Protein shakes cna be purchased in liquid or powder form. Some of the brands are pure protein, Atkins, all the whey protein. I would suggest you go to a health food store and look around. there are many options. Make sure that the shake is low in carbohydrate. YOu should try and get 60 grams of protein per day. By now stop drinking the clear liquids and progress all the way to full liquids. YOu should be able to eat yogurt, milk, cream of wheat cereal, sugar free pudding, smooth cream soup. If you would like me to fax you the info or mail it call me at 723-4211.
