I really think with all the pain I have been haveing it is do to my IBS-C. I have been have alot of attacks within the last three weeks even a bad one that went to the hospital for. But I guess the surgery would give me some answers helpful. thankyou

Hi Gina
On Thursday 4-13, I went in for an incisional hernia and an exploritory (I was having lower pains that couldn't be explained -Catscan didn't show anything). I was also nervous because I didn't know what to expect. With the gastric bypass surgery I felt at ease, I felt very well informed about the whole procedure but with the exporitory I didn't feel informed. I know this is because Dr Allam didn't know what to expect. I couldn't be told what wasn't known!
Dr Allam found that my intestines had twisted around themselves. He straightened them out and sewed them in place so this shouldn't happen again.
As for the pain, it was similar to the bypass. Initially in the hospital a little less (no getting on that machine to check for leaks & you don't have to wait to drink anything!!!), at home about the same(very tight and sore).I originally thought I would be back to work that Monday. When Monday came along, I called work and told them I needed to take off the week. I still have some discomfort but just like with the bypass the pain goes away some every day. My main problem is getting out of bed. My husband helps pull me up, otherwise I would have probably needed to sleep in the recliner.
Hope this helps. If you have other questions you can give me a call 506-8913.
My prayers will be with you.
Jean

I have been having stomach pains for a few months now and the docs have said I have a type of IBS also where I get awful spasms. Can you tell me what kind of pain you have been having? Are the pains in the upper or lower region of your abdomen? I have had a cat scan, an upper endoscopy and a colonoscopy and nothing shows. Please let me know any information you think might be helpful to me. And good luck with your surgery Gina....you are in the best of hands. And I hope you feel better soon Jean.

Dr Mary Ellen
I Had the ibs-c before the surgery. Dr Allam knew about it, he said that with the surgery it might get better. But it got worse. Ibs is were the digested tract digestes food slow then other people. what happens to me sometimes I get conserpated for like 4 days sometimes, I get really bad trapped gas, bloating, lower back pains, cramps. Also for me some foods trigger the attacks. Attacks are when you are in alot of pain with gas and bloating. I guess it kind of like the sign of dumping with feeling very hot but nothing comes out. The experience is different for everybody. There are alot of wed sites on ibs take a look there you will find better information. But talk to doctor Allam of what you are experening. the surgery that I am going for the problem can be the same as jean I don't no, good luck

Gina
I also have a "sit down" job. You could possibly go back sooner. When I took the pain medicine it knocked me out for a couple of hours. I went back today and was able to get around and sit pretty comfortably. I am glad I waited.

Gina dear, sit down job or not, do not push yourself past your limits or you will be out for longer than a week. I will say a prayer for you that your surgery goes smooth and easy, but do not push too fast. Surgery is just that, your body will need time to heal. I'm not saying you won't be able to do anything, just follow Dr Allams instructions and your body will talk to you when its had enough, listen to it.
Think of you often...........~elaine
Hi Gina;
I had to go for the internal hernia surgery also. For me it wasn't bad at all. I had it done on a Wednesday and was home on Thursday. I don't work outside of the home, but I do have 2 young children to take care of. I was on my own on that Friday and I did fine. The pain is not terrible and I never even took a prescription pain pill, only tylenol. If there is anything I can do to relieve your anxiety, please let me know. Just take it easy when it is over.

I am hoping you are out of the hospital by now. How are you feeling? Is it too early to tell if the surgery helped your problem?

Hi jean
Well I found out that i had an inflame appendix ( I hope that i spelled that right. Dr Allan remove it , and I had some scar tissue that had to be remove. I am in pain mostly sore. But the pain reliever causes constipation. That stinks I have been taking milk of Mag. It has been two days no signs of anything next step stool softers. Dr Allam sent me home the same night. I have been sleeping on the couch can't lay in bed yet. Dr Allam wants to see me wed., So I am waiting to go back to work to see what he says. My job will just have to understand. I hope this surgery helps me. I talked to the doctor that told me that I had ibs, I told him that I was going for surgery. He wants to see me to if this doesn't help the problems. I am moving around as much as I can, But taking it easy. thanks for writing in to see how I was doing.
