GET THE SKINNY MARCH 2006

Welcome to our Newsletter.
I would like to start by welcoming back Dr Allam and his crew from Nicaragua. I am sure he will have some great medical stories and photos to share with us at our upcoming meeting.
I also would like to extend thanks to Nanette, Pat, and Maria for doing a great job at our March meeting in Dr Allam’s absence.
It seems that our last two meetings have been very successful. I have received a lot of positive feedback from people who have attended them. The topics that have been discussed by Pat and Maria have been great.
For those of you who missed them I am going to try my best to put copies of the handouts on the website.
I have noticed at the last two meetings that we have been able to bounce more things off to one another - which is exactly what should be happening at our meetings. It is great to have a format at our meetings but it is also good to know that we can still keep some of the old ways such as being able to ask each other questions. I am personally enjoying the
meetings more.
I am thinking about creating a section on our message board where we can post what we would like to discuss at our meetings. If we can get some good feedback on this it can only improve our meetings.
I would like to remind those who attended the meeting and those who didn’t that Nanette posted a letter for us to copy and mail off to our Legislators, Congressmen, Senators, etc. with regard to getting Gastric Bypass Surgery made a state mandate in New York. One of the patients took the time out to write this so we can mail them off. It is a great letter and I know that I will be sending them out. She also brought up a good point not to just send one letter to each person but to send a few to the same person a few times. As she said, they might not read the first one or even the second or third but maybe one of them will finally strike them enough to read. By doing this you are helping all of us who are waiting to have surgery and that have to wait due to insurance companies.
It seems that many of us who have had the surgery over a year ago have been looking into getting a Panniculectomy (Tummy Tuck). When that time approaches Nanette will give you a red folder telling you all you need to do to prepare for that. Please read it over. Go to your PCP and Gynecologist to report any rashes due to the excess skin. The more reports of you having rashes the better the chances of your insurance company paying.
I am also in need of some new recipes. If you have any can, you please send them to me at regg1@optonline.net Thank you
