Welcome to our first newsletter for 2006. I hope that you all had a great holiday season. Let’s all try to make a commitment to encourage those who have had the surgery to continue to eat healthy. For those who are in the planning stages of having the surgery let’s continue to make that commitment to stay on track and to prepare ourselves for a life changing experience.
We had our first monthly support meeting on January 17,2006. We had a good turn out and hopefully those of you who were not able to attend this months meeting will try to attend next month’s.
Dr Allam talked with us about Internal Hernias and how Gastric Bypass has cut the cardiac risk in morbidly obese people. He explained why some of us have them and get them. He handed out a copy of an article with this information. So as not to mistype what he said I have made a copy of the papers. Maria talked about silent assumptions that we may be having about our appearance. Again, Maria handed out some dittos on this topic.
Maria also wants to start the small groups up again. If you are interested you can look for the information about the group meetings on the website under the link that says Maria The Shrink’s Corner.
Unfortunately Pat was not able to attend the meeting due to sickness but I am sure that she will be covering her topic at our next meeting.
If you have any concerns or questions about our Monthly meetings please post them on our website. You can post your concerns in Our Monthly Support Group Topics. There you can address anything about the meeting. If there is something that you might want to change or add then that is the place to post it. I will keep an eye on that section and before the next meeting I will print it out and we can discuss it at the meeting. Remember these meetings are for US. We want you to voice your opinions of what your likes and dislikes are about the meetings and what you would like to see at our meetings.
Recipe Corner
Italian Chicken
3 1/2 lbs chicken pieces
1 med onion thinly sliced
8oz. Mushrooms thinly sliced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tsp. Dried basil leaves
½ tsp dried oregano leaves
¼ tsp salt
2 cups of tomato sauce
1 8oz can of artichoke hearts
Directions
Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. In large skillet, brown chicken on all sides/ Add the next 6 ingredients. Sauté for 5 minutes. Stir in tomato sauce. Heat to boil. Cover and simmer until chicken is tender and cooked. Stir in artichoke hearts. Cook for 3 minutes
