I decided to pursue the tummy tuck. I've developed a hernia due to feeling so great and doing too much, but Dr. Allam and Dr. DeBelis have assured me that they would take care of that while they're doing the tuck. SO.....I pursued it. I was denied, but the wonderful staff at Dr. DeBelis' office told me not to worry, that they would take care of it. And take care of it they did! I got the call on Friday (11/4/05) that it's been approved.

So...right after the holidays, I'm jumping in with both feet.

Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to all of you who are going to be getting the Tummy Tuck.

I am looking forward to it sometime to hopefully come January. I had to put it off for a little while cause I am in the process of moving. I couldn't be packing and bending after a tummy tuck. So it is on hold until we settle into our new place. Which will hopefully be soon.

Keep us all posted on your progress of it.

Unfortunately I missed the January meeting and saw one of the topics was something I really needed to hear: hernias and the tummy tuck. I am not emotionally ready for the tummy tuck but do have a hernia that doesn't bother me except for being a lumpy left side of my tummy. Please update me on what was said. I try so hard to get out of the house but have blind aging mom with other physical limitations and I try not to make this my excuse but sometimes I don't get out. AACKKK! Feb. I will be there!!!!!

Dr. Allam explained what the difference was between an external and an internal hernia, and how/why they happen--due to our having the bypass surgery, the walls are weakened when they're in there putting everything in its proper place. Once they're weakened, hernias are very common. I had my surgery on the 9th, and am coming along fine. I had both the tummy tuck and the hernia surgery at the same time (I figured as long as they were in there they might as well do it all!!), and will be off work for at least another 2 weeks. I'm getting stronger every day, but still get tired real quick. All my stiches are out, and the drains removed, so now it's up to Mother Nature to move my healing along!

Cheryl,

Glad to hear you are healing right along.....you will be amazed in a few months when the swelling goes down. I couldn't and still can't believe
myself how much of it goes away........You sound very happy and I am
glad for you, after all isn't our health and peice of mind why we all chose
the bypass in the first place, this operation just enhanced both of them.........

Congrats and good health.........~elaine

Annie I am so sorry that you missed the meeting. I know that you were interested in that topic from speaking to you. Dr Allam gave us some papers about it and I plan on scanning them and placing them on here so anyone who wants to can read them. I hope that it will help explain things to you along with the help of those like Cheryl and Elaine and any one else who has had it done.

I know you said you are not ready yet to have it and I think I understand one of the reasons why. I can relate to that. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the luck. You are a great person and I am glad that I have met you.

Dear Regina: I DID read the articles you posted. Thanks so much for the info. I am fortunate the hernia I have is not painful at all. Maybe in the future Iwill go forward with the surgery. Don't know. One way or the other I MUST make it to the Feb. meeting. These meetings are a lifeline to me. Keep up the love and all your good work, Regina.
