Well, I guess it's about time I registered on the boards. I attended my first support group in August, so I've been reading all your messages since then. If you were at last nights meeting you may remember I mentioned I had my second appointment with Dr. Allam today......and we set my surgery date for Nov.14!! I'm having a load of emotions today, excitement, nerves...I feel like I'm about to go over the rainbow to a place I've always dreamed of, but could never get to before. It almost seems like this still couldn't possibly be real! I'd be very appreciative of any comments from all of you who have been down this path, to let me know how you felt when you got to this step. Thanks, and hope to hear from you guys. Chris

Hi Chris I am so happy to hear that you got your surgery date.

I can understand exactly what you are feeling. I am sure; as time gets closer to the date your emotions will be all over the place. More then what they are now. It is all so normal. Don't think that it's not.

Try your best to just remember that Dr Allam is giving you a new chance at life. A life that we all so deservingly deserve.

I remember when I went to Dr Allam and he gave me my date for surgery I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to tell my family friends and who ever would listen to me. The feelings that hit me were WOW this is it. I am going to be healthier and feel better. Knowing people who had the surgery and seeing them really helped me out. I knew that no matter what the weight was going to come off. I was ready willing and able. I was ready to do whatever it was that I had to do to be successful. Support is a BIG Part Of Being Successful.

I knew that it was going to be my last straw. I knew that it was going to work. I was prepared for it Mentally. That is to me one of the important steps to being successful with this surgery. Be prepared for whatever bumps in the road you might hit. You will hit some so don’t worry. Just know that they will pass and the end result is great.

After you have the surgery it is important to follow what Dr Allam and Pat tell you. Remember what you have heard at the support meetings. Remember we are all here to help you in anyway we can. If you ever need to just talk to someone you can come on here and post a question. Someone is always here checking the board.

Chris you are making one of the most important decisions that you can ever make now. Like Dr Allam has said many times He just gives us the tool to get started the rest is up to us.

If you were to ask me, Would I do it again? My answer to you would be Hell Yes In A Heartbeat.

Best of luck to you and may you have a speedy painless as can be recovery. Remember to walk, walk, walk. It really does help.

Remember we are here from you. Good luck!

Hey, we are happy for you. I had my surgery a year ago and now that the leaves are turning it is like it was yesterday. The time flys even faster than usual when you enjoy your life. And you will enjoy it more right away. For so many years we looked at 'the other side of the fence' and wished we could live like others. Right now you might think you will live like that once you loose X amount of pounds. But you will see, you will feel like you are on top of the world right away. The difference is that now you have a real hope that was never there. In the past we wished but secretly knew that we had so many failures that it would never happen. Well now there is no more wishing, there is reality! You will be normal!!!! What a feeling to know that you are no longer the fattest person in the room or the one people are staring at. I am happy for you. I, too, hope you have a quick recovery and then get out there and enjoy your life!
Regards,
Rose

Congratulations on your date. What you are feeling is very common. You will have alot of emotions running around in your head. One minute happy, one minute wondering if it is the right decision. I went to the support group meeting for three months before I had my surgery in April and learned alot from everyone there. I also made sure to post questions if I had them because even though we are not the doctor, nutritionist, or psychologist, we have been through the experience and we will only tell you what we did and refer you to the proper professional.

Good luck. Make sure you walk, walk, walk, it is a big part of the healing process.

Congrats Chris..........

Welcome to ITS YOUR LIFE........You should be very proud of yourself for making such a courageous leap. In my opinion, it was the only leap left for me, and what a leap it has been. I read your post, and it brought tears to my eyes when you said about the rainbow, its so real. I look in the mirror every day and wait for the fat woman to look back, like this has all been a dream, but happy to report a little more than a year later and no fat woman looking back at me in the mirror. In fact, a much healthier, and some would say skinny biotch version of the new me looks back happily every time.

I am very excited for you, if you have any questions, dont hesitate to post or call me (878-2790) anything I can help with, I'm here.

Good luck, my prayers are with you..............~elaine
