3. Calcium - chewable Viactiv( or storebrand type) 2-3 per day.
Post menopausal women and men:

Hi Everyone,
I am a member of a gastric bypass group on Yahoo and it has been very informative to me.
I just thought I would share something I found out about Viactiv. I've read that the type of calcium in them won't absorb in the new pouch.
A lot of people bought it, not knowing that, and had to throw out the Viactiv they bought.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Hugs,
Cathy

Cathy,
You are absolutely correct. The calcium we should be taking after gastric bypass is Citracal, NOT Viactiv. After your appointment here with Dr. Allam, you will be sent to a number of other health care professionals for clearance and education. Our nutritionist, Pat, will give you the current guidelines for post-operative eating, as well as supplements, which includes Citracal.
Hang in there. Things often get more difficult before they get better. (Unfortunately,I learned that the hard way!)
Please give me a call at the office if you have any questions. yr5 See you at your appointment. I am looking forward to working with you toward your goal of a healthier lifestyle!

Dear Nanette,
My sister in law JeanM, urged me to come to this bulletin board and go all the way back, and read everything. It was quite informative! However, I know a lot about this surgery, and through a support group on Yahoo that I belong to, I got to watch a real live Lap RNY. I was glued to the computer screen. It was from a hospital in Boston. Amazing! And I'm in worse shape than the patient is/was, although she was close to my age. My BMI is 51......lots of numbers after that decimal place.
I'm so ill, Nanette...I needed this surgery like, yesterday. I wonder if Dr. Allam makes a surgery spot (after all the tests you need me to have are completed) exception for someone that is very ill?? Or, is it first come first served?
I've already had quite a few of the tests that you require, which is good. I'm so ready for this surgery, Nanette. My health is so poor that I can barely function, literally.
I see Dr. Allam on the 19th of this month, and want to get this ball rolling. Two of my doctors, my PCP and pain mgmt doctor told me that I MUST have this surgery.
I'm ready.
Hugs,
Cathy
