GET THE SKINNY
June 2005 Newsletter Edition
Welcome to Junes Newsletter
I want to thank each and every one of you that came to our meetings. I also want to say welcome to all the new people.
Let me not forget to thank Dr Allam and Maria who attend our meetings on a regular basis. Thank you also to Dr DeBellis who gave us a surprise visit this month.
We talked about plastic surgery with Dr Debellis who is one of the doctors that will get rid of that extra skin after the weight loss. We talked about what vitamins we should all be taking. We also discussed the up coming 2nd Annual Picnic.
Dr Allam also showed us some slides from his trip to Nigeria. I have to tell you after seeing how they live and all the sicknesses that they have that I am thankful for the life I have. I also want to say Thank you to Dr Allam, Dr DeBellis and all the surgical team that goes on these missions each and every year. Thank You All.
Now lets get down to some business about our support group meetings. It has been mentioned on the message board that maybe we need to start 2 meetings - One for the new people and one for us older ones. I am against this for the reason that we need to support each other no matter what stage we are at. I also said on the message board that we are lucky that we have the Doctors and other professional staff with us at our meetings. Our meetings are what they are and from what I have been told by many patients they are great. So why change something that is working so well? I also suggested that a form could be filled out when we walk in the room and collected. On the form you can write down any questions you have and we can address them at the start of the meeting, then we can address anything else that might be coming up. I think if we try this then it might work out for those who might be a little shy to begin with. I hope that this will help and allay the concerns of those who think that 2 meetings would be better.
We also spent some time discussing the vitamins that we should be taking. I suggest that if you are a little confused about that then maybe you should call Pat and talk with her to see what you should be doing.
Something else that was raised was concerns over why someone who had the surgery at the same time as you has lost more weight than you. Well everyone loses weight differently you need to remember that. Men will lose weight faster then woman. It can also depend on the exercise that you are doing. You will hit a plateau no doubt about it but don’t worry it won’t last. In the beginning we lose so much so fast that when we hit one it is just a way of our bodies catching up to us. Don’t panic it is just a small hurdle that you will get over, just follow the guidelines and everything will be just fine.

Alternately thread the shrimp, squash, onion, and zucchini onto the skewers, using 4 shrimp per skewer.
Put the kebabs in a shallow baking dish and pour the marinade over the top. Marinate the kebabs at room temperature, turning occasionally, for 10 minutes.
