Get The Skinny
Welcome to May’s Newsletter
Let me start off by thanking those who made our May support meeting. For those of you who did attend and were wondering where Dr Allam was, he had just got back from his trip to Nigeria, which he told me was a very successful trip. They performed many surgeries. I am sure at this months meeting Dr Allam will tell us all about it.
Ok now lets talk about what went on at our last meeting.
It seems that a good amount of us seem to not be doing what we are suppose to be. Thanks to Pat our great nutritionist who was there to explain what we should all be doing.
I believe that it is very important for each and every one of us to fully understand how very important it is to take our vitamins.
EVERYONE - should be taking 2-multi vitamins a day. 1 with iron and 1 without iron.
PRE MENOPAUSAL WOMAN should be taking 2 multi vitamins with iron Total of 36mg of iron.
Men Should be taking 1 with iron and 1 without iron. A total of 18mg. Pat also said to be very careful when choosing your vitamins. Make sure that they have everything in them that is needed for our bodies.
B12 Sublingual - Everyone should be taking this. We need to take this for the rest of our lives unless told by our Doctor. Some of us might have to go to our PCP doctors to get a B12 shot. Just make sure you all take it every week. It is a Must!
Calcium We all should be taking this too. We should be getting at least 1500mg of calcium a day. You can get your calcium by either chewing Tums and another way is by chewing the viactive chews.
All the above along with the protein that we need is something that we will have to do for the rest of our lives. We had the surgery and if you want to enjoy the benefits of it then you need to follow the rules. Otherwise you are going to suffer in the long run. Not taking your vitamins can cause more trouble for you in the end. So to avoid that just take them everyday.
If you have any questions on what you should be taking and when just give Pat a call and she can answer those questions for you.
We also talked about how people look at us so differently now that we have lost the weight. We are no different inside now that we are thinner than we were when we were heavy. Unfortunately society sees us differently. People are strange. When you are heavy they pay no attention to you and say mean things. When you are thinner they are quick to hold a door open to you and make small chit chat with you. I know that some of you said that you were uncomfortable about that. Maybe that is something that we can discuss further at our meeting in June.
Speaking of the meeting, it has been brought to my attention that some of us would like to make some suggestions on what we need to talk about at our meetings. I am going to add a section on our message board headed Meeting Suggestions. If you post what you would like to discuss then on the day of the meeting I will print it out and bring it with me to the meeting. I will just copy the topics that are there. I will leave your names out. I think this way we will cover a better variety of issues rather than the same ones over and over again.
Recipe Corner

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves (about 2 pounds)

Remove chicken from the marinade. Grill the chicken, turning once, until browned and just cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer the chicken to a platter and garnish with the basil sprigs
