Well all my pre op testing is done and I'm all cleared medically. Just waiting to hear if its a go with my Insurance Company. I'm getting more nervous with everyday that passes. For someone that's never had a broken leg, operation or even stitch I think my fear is justified. I know a few months down the road I'll be glad that I did it. I'm coming to the tuesday meeting and can't wait to talk to someone that's going on a year plus since the surgery. I'm interested in the changes in their lifestyle. See you all there I hope!

I had my surgery a week ago today. I will tell you one thing, I had the same feelings, however I have been hospitalized before and had my gallbladder removed in 2001. Everything wil be just fine. Make sure you get up and walk, walk, walk. I will see you at the meeting on Tuesday.

I am almost one year and three months out. Very, very much has changed in my life. I have lost 80 lbs. I am only 5 feet tall so that makes a very big difference in my life. These are some things that are different: I can walk up and down stairs without losing my breath. I go around twice as quickly with twice as much energy. I can reach my feet. Polish my own toenails. Cross my legs. I can ride on the back of my hubbies Harley and fit! Most of all I can get ON it! I can play ball with my grandson, wear regular size clothes instead of "X" sizes and when I see myself in a passing glass window I realize i am a "small" person. Most of all I feel very good. Healthy, optimistic, anticipating a better tomorrow. This doesn't mean that life has no problems. It just means that I am in a much better place to face whatever comes physically, emotionally, spiritually. I am very grateful.

I'll be a year out on May 6....and what a year it's been. Today I did yard work all day....I swear I did more gardening in one day today than I did all last year. And I'm not passed out on the couch...I'm tired, but a good tired. I can bend over and pick up sticks...I can dig in the dirt. I can do all the things I love to do...and actually feel good before during AND after! I'm down a little over 100 lbs...and this past year has been the biggest and best change in my life ever. I researched the surgery for 2 years prior to going thru with it...and yes, I had misgivings and fears due to never having any major surgery before. But believe me...( and I won't be the only one you hear this from I'm sure)....you will thank your lucky stars that there is a Dr. Allam and a Dr. Allams' staff and support group out there for you. We're there for you...any time, any place. You go girl...we're behind you 110% of the way. Welcome to the rest of your life!!!! Hope to see you Tuesday...

I agree with all the above.
I had my surgery 20 months ago. I have lost a total of 140LBS. I feel great. I thank my lucky stars that I have met Dr Allam who saved my life. I tell people if I had to do it over again I tell them I would do it in a heartbeat. I recommend this surgery to anyone who is ready for a change and who will follow the plan after surgery. It is not an easy out and don't let anyone tell you that it is. It still takes courage, control and will power to succeed.
Since the surgery my life has changed so much like Cheryl and Annie above you can do the things that you couldn't before. It is a great feeling to be able to accomplish something as simple as doing the laundry with out getting out of breath. You will see and those who have also just had the surgery will see as you keep losing.
It’s amazing the first time you can cross your legs. At last months meeting there was Rose who was so Happy that she shared it with all of us. She showed us how she is now able to cross her legs. It is a big thing to us many others might not understand why it is. To us it is another thing we can now do because we had the surgery and are losing the weight.
If you weren't nervous then I would think something is wrong with you. I was nervous too we all are it is normal. Just try to think of all the positive things that will come out of this. Oh in case you are wondering what that will be well I will tell you........
IT WILL BE A NEW AND BETTER YOU!
Good luck and I will see you at the meeting. If you want a before picture I always have my camera at the meetings and I will gladly take one for you. A lot of patients will tell you how important that before picture is. It’s up to you though just let me know. Just walk up to me and say before picture please LOL. Or if not please come over to me and let me know who you are anyway. Thanks. Again Lots of luck. You’re in good hands.
