GET THE SKINNY
MARCH 2005
xcy Medhat E. Allam, M.D., F.A.C.S
Welcome to this months newsletter At our last meeting we went over about our Eating habits. A few of you have said that you see yourselves going back to the way you were eating before surgery. Now that some of you are past a few months out you are eating a little more. Be careful on the foods that you choose to eat. Make sure that you eat your meals at about the same time each day. If you are feeling hungry in between your meals then have a piece of fruit. Don't turn to those bad choices again. It is very important not to skip meals. Some of you have said that is what you are doing. Yes it might be hard to do when at work but you need to take that time out for you. If you can't buy a good lunch then pack one and take it with you to work. Skipping meals is only going to make you reach for some fast food things or junk. If you see yourself doing this stop and think about what you have gone through to get to this point. If feel that you might need a little push to get back on track then call Dr Allam or Pat. You also can go to the message board and post your question there. Someone is always there checking and will be glad to try to help you. Make sure that you all attend our monthly meetings. That is a big part of being successful.

WELCOME ALL NEW PATIENTS
At this time I would like to welcome all new patients to our group. I also want to say that I am pleased to see that more of you are starting to use
Our message board. Please continue to do so. Please post your questions. Also if you have a surgery date please post that under the SURGERY DATE. This is a forum that Dr Allam has also provided for us. So lets all use it. If you have any problems please contact me at regg1@optonline.net or private message me from the website.
Recipe Corner:
Low Carb Zucchini Muffins
4 tablespoons wheat bran
1 1/2 cups soy flour plus 2 tablespoons
1/2 cup small diced zucchini, with skin on
3 eggs
3/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup club soda
1/3 cup sugar substitute (recommended: Splenda)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
Grease a 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray or butter. In a small bowl, mix together 4 tablespoons wheat bran and 2 tablespoons soy flour and sprinkle it evenly over each of the 12 cups of the muffin pan.
Directions
In a larger bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients until completely blended. Fill each muffin cup only 2/3 of the way with the mix, leaving room for them to rise, and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until tops start to brown. The muffins are done when lightly browned and a wooden toothpick inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Remove and let cool before taking out of the pan. Cook's Note: These muffins make great strawberry shortcakes by adding low carb whipped cream and fresh strawberries. For fun serve them in a martini glass.
