Ahhhhhhh I finally made in the threads lol. THANKS ELAINE AND REGINA AGAIN FOR THE HELP!!

I'm due to have my bypass on April 21 and I've been reading alot about the surgery and then post op. And honestly I'm scared. I want to lose the weight and I know in the end I'll be much happier for it. What I'm wondering about is the changes that will happen in my life. Hair falling out, having tubes down my throat if it isn't wide enough, throwing up and I guess all the what if's. I know the first three months are going to be HARD. But will life go back to normal or I am going to be the poster child for things people shouldn't put in the mouth?

I'm a sponge and I'm ready to soak up the information.

Okay, you made it............
First of all, the only poster child you might become is one that is brave and courageous....you have made the ulitmate commitment to yourself for a change.
As for eating, it becomes less important and you move on to more important things in life. I had my surgery just under 6 months ago. My life is more normal than it has ever been. My life no longer revolves around my next meal and sometimes I have to remind myself to eat.
The first few weeks are the hardest, well at least they were for me, but I went into this willing to give up ALL the crap I ate before and start a new life. No looking back. I don't eat sweets anymore, mostly because I don't want to, but if I did I am afraid that my body will tolerate them and then what, I start eating again, No thanks.......I learned something a long time ago that I will share.........."if you always do, what you've always done, then you'll always get, what you always got !!!!!" No more for me, I made a commitment to change and that is what I am doing.
You will find your comfort zone, pay attention to your body and most of all follow through with your doctor, nutritionist and support group meetings The more you educate yourself, the more likely you will be to be successful.

Good luck in your journey..........I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks Elaine. I appreciate your words of wisdom. I have to ask are you eating normally now? Just less of it? Have you gotten sick? How were you post op?

Hi I am 10 weeks out. I am eating lots of different stuff, some soft and some solids, and still retraining myself how to chew and eat small bites (eat small bites, eat small bites!!! I say it like a mantra at mealtimes.). Its getting easier each day.
I had a problem with heartburn which was so easily solved,,, Dr. Allam changed the time of the antacid pill (most of us take), and that seems to have cured me. I have thrown up (anyone out there who hasn't?) but as intelligent beings, we examine those factors preceding the event. And we don't repeat them and then we don't throw up. Losing is still work but the operation is a tool that makes our job of losing weight easier. (45 pounds gone) It's wonderful not feeling hungry all the time.
Good luck with the surgery.

Welcome to our group. hggroup

I am 19 months out and down 140LBS and I have to tell you this if I had to do this over again I would in a heart beat. xpwink I have no regrets what so ever. Ok maybe one and that is that I wished I did this sooner. I live a better healthier life now that I have lost the weight. ATT0009619

I had high blood pressure was diabetic borderline (which happens to run strongly in my family) I have asthma and COPD. My asthma has improved so much now. The COPD unfortunately will not ever go away but that is from years of smoking. It has gotten better do to the weight loss. My blood pressure is Normal off all meds. I can only tell you this that if you are ready for a change and willing to fight for what you want. Then you will be successful. 11zwinky

You say your surgery date is April 21 well then we can expect to see you at out meeting April19th? I sure do hope so. You will be able to get that added support from all of us at the support group meeting. Try your best to come. image00123

Hi Catrina,
I've Only Met One Catrina In My Life And She Was From Ronkonkoma, So Might It Be You??
I'm Going On 6 Weeks Out I've Lost 30 Lbs And Feel Wonderful. I Have Not Thrown Up, I Was Nautious Maybe Once For A Few Minutes Cause I Drank My Protien Shake To Fast. I Am Eating All Kinds Of White Flakey Fish, Cheeses, Crackers, Whole Wheat Bread And Eggs. I Haven't Had The Least Bit Of Problems With My Food At All. Everyone Seems To Be So Very Different. I Am Very Sore Though Hard To Bend Over To Even Shave My Legs. I Have An Appointment With Dr. Allam Tomorrow, And I Hope He Tells Me It's Just Part Of The Healing Process. Then I Speak To Other People Who Had The Surgery Around The Same Time, There Not Sore At All But They Can't Hold Down Food. So Which Is Worse? You Have Made The Right Decision Just Go With It, Your Body Will Do The Rest. So Anyway I'll Stop Babbling Now, But To Answer Your Question No I Haven't Thrown Up Yet, And I Still Have All My Hair!! Good Luck To You, Hope To Meet You At The April Meeting.

Hi Regina,
Sooooooooo Dr. Allam Said................................ It Was Part Of The Healing Process( Big Suprise). I Swore I Had Hernia!! Something To Do With The Muscles. Today There Is A New Pain Added It's Like An Electrical Shock Being Sent Through My Stomach. It's Killing Me, I'm Gonna Lay Of The Walking For Like A Week To See What Happens. Regina Remember Abby The Girl Who Had The Surgery The Same Day As Me? Well I Saw Her This Morning At Dr. Allams, That Poor Girl Is Still On Clear Liquids!! At Least If I Stay Still I Don't Hurt. So I'll Grin And Bare This Pain As Long As Need Be. It's Been Worth The Now 35 Lbs!!

Great News Terrie. I am so glad that everything worked out for you. See I had a feeling that everything was ok.
I am sure that Abbey will start to feel better soon and hopefully be able to move on to different foods. Everything works out you'll see.

Keep posting.
