3 months out & I have a serious problem with the artificial sweetners, including splendra, and can not stand the taste of stevia. I want to know from others' past experiences what the limits are. I certainly don't want to dump.
Will 1/2 tsp. of granulated sugar in a cup of tea throw me? Any difference if I use brown sugar? or a taste of honey?
All those sugar free desserts are off limits to me,also. Is eating one regular cookie courting disaster?
Thanks

Nancy I can only speak for myself. I don't use those artificial sweeteners. What I mean is that I don't add them to anything. I guess they are in the sugar free Jell-O and Crystal Light Ice Tea that I drink. Other then that I don't add them to anything.
As far as using regular sugar there again everyone is different. In the beginning for me I didn't go over 6grams of sugar in something I ate. That was me. No one told me to do that but that is what I did. I didn't want to know if I could eat sugar after all that was one of my down falls. So thinking in my mind that I can't have it helped me for 16 months after surgery. I wouldn't go near any of that stuff cookies, cakes or even ice cream to name a few.
Now I have to say that I have tried a cookie or two and I haven't had a problem. I know that I will try my best not to go past that cookie or two. One night I tried a slice of ice cream cake and I did feel sick. I am so glad that I felt that way too. I know that might sound strange to some but I know I won't try it again in fear of getting or feeling sick again.
Why not try a cracker or two instead of that cookie. I believe and it is just my opinion that the longer a person can stay away from the sweets the better off we are. We need to keep making the right choices now. This was just a tool that doctor Allam gave us the rest of it is up to us if we want to succeed. So I do try my best to make wise choices. I want to enjoy my new life and me. 11zwinky

thanks Regina
I can not even tolerate crystal light or snapple diet iced tea. I can not tolerate any of the Low-Carb sugar-free stuff because they are loaded with artificial sweetners. I cannot use most of the recipes for sugarfree cooking because they contain artificial sweetners!
My limit seems to be the 2 flintstone vitamins/daily plus
2-3Tbsp sugar free pudding. If I take in any more than that of artificial sweetner I get severe diarrhea and a very sore gut.
I have also become very lactose intolerant since this surgery.
But sometimes a little bit of something sweet would be welcome! I can tolerate crackers such as wheat thins and have put a drop of polander unsweeted fruit jam on them without hardship. Not real tasty but a little closer. Thanks for your input. (5-6 gr. sugar sounds like a fair number)
