What a great meeting last night! Here's the "skinny" on the whey protein I was talking about--it has done wonders for me. I checked with Pat on it and she said it was a great way to get your protein...let me know how you like it! It's not filet mignon, but definitely an alternative to the lovely ProStat we've all come to love (NOT)!!
I have bought it at RiteAid and at the Vitamin Shoppe in Watermill (due to it being on sale)...I'm sure you can get it other places, but I'm sure if you buy it at a high end place you're going to pay a high end price. I watch for it to be on sale @ RiteAid and then grab one so I have it. It comes in different sizes and flavors, but I've only tried the vanilla. I usually get the 3 lb jug due to that one seeming to have the best price...that size runs right around $20 on sale. I put one scoop in my coffee every morning, and it tastes like a flavored creamer...and believe me, it has done wonders with my hair. Within a week it stopped falling out...and I haven't had a problem since. You can add it to alot of other things....puddings (see my Banana Cream Dream recipe), smoothies, etc. The label states it is 100% whey protein, one of the highest biological value scores for protein. It doesn't have any yeast, starch, citrus, preservatives or artificial colors added--that definitely is a plus. And it has Splenda in it for a sweetener (no aspartame). The Nutrition Facts on the label are as follows: (all per serving)
Calories -- 100
total fat -- 1.5 g
protein -- 17g
Carbs -- 3 g
One word to the wise....if you're going to mix it with coffee, DON'T have the coffee too hot. I've done that...and you get LUMPY coffee....not very appetizing first thing in the morning. Extremely hot coffee will start to cook it I think....it's lovely! Let me know if you come up with more recipes!
