Get The Skinny

xcy Medhat E. Allam, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Welcome to our first newsletter of the New Year. I would like to start off by thanking Dr Allam for the beautiful Christmas Party he gave us this year. Also thanks to Larry and Raven for the great show they performed that evening.

Ok now lets get down to business. Our first support meeting was held on January 18 and I would like to say thanks to all who came out. It was pretty cold but we had a great turnout anyway. At the meeting Dr Allam talked about how he has joined obesityhelp.com website. He also told us that he wouldn’t be here for our February meeting he will be in Egypt.

Just because Dr Allam won't be there doesn't mean you should not to come to our meeting. It is still important and Pat and Maria will still be there. We will also be having a special guest. Nanette has lined up a pharmacist to attend our meeting. The pharmacist is going to let us know which pills can be crushed and which can't be. That is something that is very important to know. Especially in the beginning right after surgery. I am also trying to see if I can get Dr Debellis (Plastic Surgeon) to come to our meeting.
Hope to see you at our meeting.

cvp Patricia A. Vonatski, M.M.c., R.D. I want to thank Pat for giving us such a great presentation at our last meeting. I am sure it helped many of us. For those of you who were not able to make our last meeting Pat went over reading labels on packages. It was very helpful. She pointed out that when we look at a label that we should start at the top. Then look to see how many pieces per serving then Carbs etc. You must see the serving size per package in order to see what you are getting in everything else.

pyd Maria is our Psychologist/psychotherapist:
She sits in at all of our meetings. She also has a group that meets every Tuesday except for our monthly Tuesday meeting. If you feel that you might need some extra counseling then please contact her at 329-3185 to set something up.

nm Nanette is our Program Coordinator:
She is the person who will meet and greet you at the office and all support meetings. She will explain to you the process that takes place once you walk through those doors. She is very understanding to each and every one of you. She has also, along with both of her daughters, had the surgery. So she knows exactly what we are feeling and going through. Relax - Nanette will make it all as easy as she can for you. Also Nanette would like to ask all patients that have to get blood work done to please make sure it is done one week prior to coming in for your appointment. Dr Allam needs these results at the time of your visit. Thank You.

SPECIAL GUEST FOR FEBRUARY SUPPORT MEETING:
This month Nanette has organized a Pharmacist to attend our next meeting. At this time they will inform us on what pills can be crushed, chopped, broken up or even dissolved. Some of you may have passed this stage but we have plenty of new patients coming in all the time, they can’t always swallow pills. The pharmacist will let us know what we can do to take them. Thank you for taking the time to come to our meeting.

Dr Debellis will also be at our meeting this month. He is going to give us a short presentation on different Plastic surgery procedures that some of us might be thinking about. Some of us are at the stage that we want to get rid of all that extra skin we have. Some of us might not be at that part yet but it is important to also research this part of surgery. Dr Debellis works very closely with Dr Allam and together they can help you be successful. After the slide presentation he will open the floor up for a discussion and answer as many questions that he can. Thank You Dr DeBellis for taking the time to come to our meeting.

Our Message board: I want to thank the many of you who have started to use the message board more often. It is great to see some more activity on the board.
We also have to try to get together with our chat room. When speaking with Dr DeBellis about this he has offered to come in there and chat with us about Plastic Surgery. So at our meeting this month maybe we can organize a time that would be good for all. Maybe we can even get Dr Allam to join in that night or another. We might be able to get a special guest every now and then to come and talk with us. I think that if we can kick this off it will benefit all of us in the long run. Here is the extra-added support that we might be looking for. That message board is there for our use and Dr Allam pays for it for us. So lets show him that we appreciate it by using it more. Anyone who is having trouble getting on and posting please contact me either by email at regg1@optonline.net or you may phone me at home at 924-9087. If I am not there please leave a message and I will call you back.

Lift Chair: The lift chair is still available for anyone to use after surgery. The only thing that you need to do is ask for it and pick it up. When you have finished with it please let Gail (owner of chair) know that it is ready for someone else. Also, maybe you can tell Nanette and she can tell other patients about this chair. Right now the chair is with Peggy you can reach her at 631 287-7011 if you would like to use the chair.
