OK I can FINALLY post my surgery date is Oct 14. I was not sure I would pass the testing since I had to have a biopsy on a thyroid tumor. The tumor is benign so I am ready to go! I have started stocking up on clear liquids, vitamins, etc. I just hope nothing else leaps out at me when I go for my pre surgical testing. Had a spinal fusion last year and I was diagnosed diabetic so that put the surgery off for months. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Mary Ellen,

I am SO excited for you that your thyroid tumor was benign, and you have your date! Way to go! After having the surgery myself AND helping my two daugthers through it, I can only say your life will never be the same!

Although the first few weeks is , let's say "charming", once the cravings have passed, you have developed a routine, and you are out and about your business again, you will be happier and healthier than you have been for a long time! The other day, as I was watching a TV program, (the news, of all things!) I realized I was sitting there smiling......no reason......just smiling!

THEN, I had to go shopping for a gown for by brother in law's wedding. (A task I dreaded and despised in the past!) Not only did I NOT buy a size 24W, I shopped in the JUNIORS department, and bought a 10! (I am a size 6-8 in misses!) Then, the coolest thing happened.....a group of ladies waiting for the dressing room had gathered. My husband had told them (he's a proud guy!) that I had lost 135 lbs, and was gown shopping. As I walked out to look at the dress in the 3-way mirror, I had a CHEERING SECTION! They were all voting on which dress was "more fabulous". It was a riot, and a real ego booster!

I can't wait to hear your success stories! There will be many, I am sure.

Be sure to follow Dr. Allam's and Pat's instructions to the letter. Get up and walk, even if you don't feel like it. Follow your food stages plan, and watch the miracle take place. It's so wonderful! Be sure to ASK FOR ADVISE if you need it! No question is silly or unimportant! Call me at home anytime! 728-8628. I will help in any way I can. We can get through anything together!

You will be in my thoughts and prayers on October 14th. See you soon.

Love, Nanette

Thanks for the support and the good advice. I had my pre-surgical appt today with Dr Allam and I asked how Elaine did yesterday and he said she did terrific and will be going home tomorrow. I am so glad! She has become a buddy since our dates were a week apart. I do expect a rough couple of weeks but, hey, no pain - no gain I always say.

I have read several of your posts about you and your daughters and you sound great! I love the cheering section! I truly believe that good things come to good people and you seem to be a great Mom and an inspiration to us all. Thanks again for the encouragement. Onward and upward.

I will post and let you know how I am doing!
