Hey all!
It sure was good to see everyone at the meeting. There were some faces I missed. I hope it means you were out with your family and having FUN!!
I got the feeling that some weren't happy with the new "format" of the meeting tonight. I just wanted to put in my two cents, if that's ok.
I know that, sometimes, if we feel that a particular subject doesn't apply to us, we may feel like our time was wasted, or that the meeting wasn't "successful." Or, we may feel silly as we "feel ourselves breathe". But, I think what we need to try to remember is this:
*Maybe somebody needed to hear this discussion!
*Maybe somebody will benefit more from having the opportunity to get real about their feelings about their body image, or food cravings/addictions/etc.
*Maybe, although this "doesn't apply to me directly, I can help somebody else."
I think that's the true definition of a support group! Getting together with people who share a common experience and a common goal, and helping one another deal with the triumphs and difficulties that will, invariably, come along with the path we are all following. We all know that some days are much harder than others!! Some people there tonight may not have a support system at home, they may be alone, or have a difficult family situation! We may be all they have! Tonights discussion may just be the key to their success.
I am confident that, as we work together patiently toward this goal, that the meetings will take on a more comfortable flow, and we will all benefit from the experience and knowledge of these professional people, whose goal is simply to help us help ourselves!
So, I am asking that we all give it a chance to work to our benefit, and to the benefit of others. :D
Thanks! See you Saturday!
