Family gatherings and functions? I recently went to my niece's wedding. There was more food and alcohol than I think I've ever seen before. I was 8 or 9 months out. I ate what I thought I could and made no excuses nor did I explain why I wasn't eating as much as everyone else. In the begining I could not have done that. I remember when I was only a month out there was a big Christmas party at work with catered Italian food from the best resteraunt. I refused to sit in the lobby while everyone ate. I couldn't eat and I couldn't watch them eat. It gets easier. Eventually you can eat almost anything in extreme moderation depending on the type of surgery you've had. My father and I have lunch every Wednesday and eventhough I have told him I can't drink with meals and I can't have sugar he still asks me what I want to drink with lunch and if I want ice cream every time. LOL I always politely tell him I can't do those things anymore. He's 80 and I know he means well. I think that's the most important thing to remember. You're family members may always try to feed you because they equate that with making you happy, but as long as they mean well there's nothing wrong with politely reminding them of your particular situation. For the ney sayer's that don't mean well then remember they may be a bit jealous and take it all with a grain of salt. Hope this helps.
