Hello Everyone,
Well I had my second appt. with Dr. Allam, I've seen Dr. Twiggs, I go to see Dr. Goldenberg tommorrow and then the cardioligist on the 19th and the Pulmonary Dr. on the 23rd. I called Dr. Allams office today and Sheila in the billing office gave me a surgery date of Oct 30th, so as long as everything goes okay with the insurance company I'll begin my new journey. Can anyone tell me about the pre op I'm trying to figure out my days at work and I only have 7 days left to use. Is the pre op usually the day before and will I have to take the whole day off or is it just a couple hours?
Thank you to everyone for all your encouraging words and all your stories they really do help.

Great news DawnMarie. Sounds like things are moving right along for you. If my memory serves me right, I think that the pre op is a few days before the surgery. That is when you get that lovely bracelet to wear. You have to leave that on and it has to be on when you check in the day of your procedure.
When I went for my pre op, it took a few hours. Then again, it all depends on how fast or how busy they are that day. I would try to get the earliest appointment that you can. This way if you are just there for a few hours then you can return to work and not use a day.
Thanks for updating up on your Journey.
Do you think that you will be making our meeting this coming Tuesday Sept 16? Hope to see you there.:)

Dawn,
Congratulations!
It took me about 1/2 a day for my pre-op. As Regina said, try to get an early morning appointment as it depends on how many people are before you.
Give me a call sometime if you would like. 631-377-0090

I think that 1/2 a day is the consenses. That;s what it took me. I believe it was a couple of days before surgery, too. Congratulations! hope to see you Tuesday.

Dawn that is great news..... I am so happy for you.... I am going to see Dr. Goldenberg also. I have to make my other appointments, but I am moving slow as I am having large issues with my insurance company. Who do you have for insurance coverage? I have Island Group through the town of east hampton. I have to wait 18 months, that is 18 months of monthly doctor weight ins and then they still are turning people down. Anyway I am happy for you keep us informed...... Have a great day

Hi Dawn,
Congrats on your progress!!! That's great. Your pre-op will go smoothly and everyone is right about the time. It all depends on the moment, but a few hours is just about right. You do blood, urine, and all of the rest of the vitals, and you talk to your anesthesiologist(sp) and they tell you how to scrub up before coming in for the operation, and all of the rest of the details. No big deal, right? As far as the time off, 1/2 day should be fine if everything works out ok.
Hope to see you at the meeting on Tuesday, I think you will enjoy it and you can ask any questions you may have.
Talk to you soon,
Jamie

Hi Dawn Marie,
I just had my surgery done a week ago today. My pre-op was done on the Thursday before Labor Day weekend. My appointment was for 10:20. I got there early at 9:50, no traffic amazingly. You go to admitting and fill out all the paperwork and get your hospital bracelet. Then you go over to a sitting area in the Lab. You will have an EKG, blood work, urine specimen, MRSA test and meet with a nurse who will go over all the details of the surgery day. She also gives you a wash to use the night before and morning of the surgery. She answers alot of your questions too. Then you go to Radiology and get a chest x-ray. The whole process took an 1 1/2 hours for me. I thought it was going to be alot longer, but I bought a book to read while waiting and the time went very quickly. The room was very crowded, but it really seemed to move right along. Maybe ask for 1/2 a day, and go back into work as soon as you're done. You're going to want to save your time for right after surgery to rest and recover.
Good luck with everything. Laurie

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your posts, I met with Dr. Goldenberg and was cleared by him, I go Friday to the Pulmonary Dr. and on the 23rd to the Cardioligist. My pre op is Oct 21 at 8:40am My surgery date is Oct 30th. So far things are moving right along, hopefully the insurance is not going to hold things up. I have Empire NYSHIP insurance and they require the 6 month diet history from my primary Dr. which I did receive so hopefully things will go smoothly. I'll keep everyone posted.
Talk to everyone soon.
