Five years ago, today I had my gastric bypass surgery. I can't believe that it has been that long ago already.
I have to tell you that losing the weight has been one of the best things that I ever did for myself. I don't regret for one second ever making that decision. I'm thinking if I didn't I would have been even heavier then I was back then. I might have really developed more illnesses then I had then.
Just so, you know that even though I am five years out I still experience the dumping and I might get sick sometimes. Which is both my fault because I try things that I know I shouldn't have or that I know won't agree with me. You also have to know that even though I do that occasionally I still don't regret having the surgery. I would do it again if need be in a heartbeat.
I also believe that going to our monthly support meetings have kept me going on the right track. Yes, even though I did gain a few pounds back and I know why I did I think it would have been worse if I didn't attend our meetings. By attending our monthly support meetings even a five-year veteran, I am still learning things from them. Example was when a member came back who hasn't been there in a while and gained some weight back. At that point, I realized I was not alone. I took all the information from that meeting and turned it into a positive one for me. I have lost 15 lbs of the 30 I gained. It might be coming off slow but that is fine with me.
To all the members who are from when I started out come back to our meetings. I know that some of you come here and just read the board and that is great but we need you at our support meetings to. Even if you have gained, some weight as I did just come back. Maybe someone will say something that might trigger something off to help you. Listen we are all human and we all make mistakes no one is going to judge you in our group. You know we are not like that we already no what it was like to be judge by people on our weight. So, come back. Make a promise to yourself that you will try to attend our next meeting.
To all the new members think and research what procedure is going to work for you. Don't pick the one that your friend or maybe a family member tells you to have. It is your body your life and you should make the decision on which one is best for you. Talk to Dr. Allam and Pat they will help guide you with what surgery to have. Good luck to all.
