I sometimes read another weight loss board and they were talking about Water Loading-Filling up on alot of water before each meal to keep the pouch full- I have never heard of this at our support groups or from Dr. Allam

Has anyone else done this? Is it something that Dr. Allam or Pat would recommend?

I read many things on the internet but would never try them unless it was recommended by Dr. Allam

Hi Lee, I have never heard of that before. I have heard in the past before I decided to have gastric bypass that when on a diet to drink water to fill us up and not eat as much.

I think that we can keep our pouches pretty satisfied if we eat our protein. That should keep us until our next meal.

It is important to drink water especially in the summer since we might sweat more and we can easily become dehydrated. So do drink but I truly don't believe that we should fill our pouches with just water.

If Pat doesn't answer this question and if you come to this months meeting June 17 maybe you can ask her that question. If you are not going to make it to the meeting, I will ask it for you. ;)

:DAnd thanks to Regina to responding.....

I've heard of people doing that once they are out far enough from surgery to drink "normally." That's what I read.....but never knew it could be something beneficial to us after gastric bypass.

I am nearly 16 months out, and I *still* have to "push" my water sometimes. When I'm in air conditioning, it's harder for me to drink as much as I should, but when I'm out and about in warmer weather I drink more. I try so hard to drink between 2 and 3 liters a day. But it's hard!!!

Good luck, Lee! Pat is great, and I asked about this last summer, and to strive for the 64 oz a day, is what I was told to do.

Hugs,
Cathy

Water Loading was discussed in our support group few years back. It is usually used by patients who are several months out and feel hungry before meals and fear eating too much. It will creat a feeling of fullness with small meals. It deos not work for everyone but you can try it.

Thank you for getting back to me on that- I think I'll wait to try that in the future when I actually feel hunger
