Hi all I was just wondering how everyone is holding up with this unusual weather that we are having for June.

I know I feel so much better with the weight loss. I remember that when it was hot like this I just stayed indoors. I would not venture out unless I really had to. Now I can go out in this weather with out worrying too much. I still have to be cautious since I have COPD. This weather is dangeorus for people who have any kind of breathing problems. The weight loss has helped me some but I still have to be careful.

Remember when you go out in this weather to make sure you carry a bottle of water. We dehydrate fast so it would be a smart idea to carry one with you.

Pick the question below that pertains to you and let us know how you are coping with the heat.

Those of you who have had either surgery and have already lost weight do you feel a difference from the way you were before the surgery in this heat.

Those of you who have not had either of the surgeries yet how are you feeling with this heat.

Well, I can say that I've changed dramatically since surgery, where summer heat (and the current heat) is concerned.

Before surgery:

I didn't even have to move and I was sweating! When I showered, I was sweating before and after I got out! And being outside in the heat and humidity killed me, I couldn't stand it! I barricaded myself in my apartment and cranked the A/C and had plenty of fans on.

After surgery:

I don't sweat very often. Heat outside feels hot, but not so unbearable. Humidity and heat, I still can't stand, but it's much more tolerable for me. I still have barricaded myself in my apartment during this heat wave, but most days (like last summer) I could only count the times I broke a sweat on one hand.

To me, that's amazing and what losing 135 pounds can do for you! But it still doesn't make me like summer any better. I can't go out in the sun anyway (hypersensitve), so I try to avoid terrible summer heat and sun anyway.

Hugs,
Cathy

I was just at my dad's house yesterday. He doesn't believe in air conditioning so I sat there with only a fan for an hour and a half. I said that I would not have done that if I was still wearing my "100 pound coat." So, I deffinaly am handling the heat much better this year.

Hi everyone,

I was the same way too!! I work for a caterer during the summer and am usually working over a 6 foot grill and usually it is tucked into a corner of the house with no air circulation. Add long black pants and an apron over a dress shirt and you have a recipe for heat stroke!!!!! I am sure that recipe will still make me sweat, but I'm confident it won't be as bad as it has been in the past. So far this year, I seem to be coping better, and I know that I certainly feel much better.

Thanks, Dr. Allam,

Jamie

Hey Everyone, I am not doing well in the heat !!! My house was damaged badly by the storm the other day. My power-lines are down and I will be without electricity for another 2 days or so. No Fans, No Air conditioner, No water........but we are all safe and thats what counts !!!!
As far as my weight goes I do feel a different , my feet dont swell as much, I am not so out of breath.......................I am dealing with the heat alot better than I did before my surgery !!!!!!!! KUDO'S to Lap band !!! Still the best decision I ever made.
