Well hello all my name is JIM and I'm aggresivly trying to get all my ducks in order for a lap-band as soon as possible. I have my last check on the check list today at 2:30 with my primary.
I've reserched this for over a year and am ready to go.
One thing I'm having some diffeculty with is the No drinking with your meal.
I've done this my entire life and I've been trying HARD for the past month to stop this while I work on my list to get the surgery.
ANY ideas or comments about this would be helpful.
THANKS
JIM

Hey Jim,
I'm Jamie and I had the lapband done on June 28th 2007 and that is still a bit of a problem for me too. You really need to be patient and try, because if you overdo it, it could strech your pouch and you might feel like you have a golf ball lodged in your throat. It washes the food down too fast and it can catch up a little and could make you feel uncomfortable. It is a very hard habit to break, because like you, I have always washed everything down before, during, and after I ate and it becomes second nature!!!
Another reason not to do this is because it can wash the food out of your pouch too fast and you won't feel full for as long as you should.
I hope this has helped you out in some way. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. There are some great people on this site and I'm sure they will jump in and help in any way they can.
Nice talking to you,
Jamie

Hi, Jim. I'm Isabel and I had gastric bypass 3 months ago. Bypassers aren't allowed to drink anything 30 min. to an hour before or after eating. It's not that bad when you consider the small amount of food you will be consuming and how much you want to savor the taste. Drinking something with a meal hinders the flavor. Try, the next time you eat, not puting a glass on the table. My daughters know that when they set the table I don't get a cup. See how much longer you can savor the taste of your meal without washing it away with something to drink. You can have your drink later. It will become a habit. Oh and check out my recipies in the food corner. They taste great and you are allowed to eat them fairly soon after surgery.
Hope this helped!

Hi Jim,
My name is Carrie and I had the lap band surgury on November 29, 2007, the drinking with eating thing is hard but I have learned to deal with it. This surgury was the best thing I have ever done for my self.
Please feel free to ask any questions you have.
