Hello Everyone! My name is Karen. I'm 27, and married to Brian who's 32, for 4 years now (Our anniversary was just on the 10th). I am from East Hampton. We have two children, Haleigh who is almost three and a half, and Ethan who just turned one on April 18th. They are two great kids.
I've been looking into gastric bypass for about a year now, and finally just got the courage last month to have my first consult with Dr. Allam in April. He was very nice. Since then, I have seen Pat the nutritionist, a psychologist, and my primary doctor for all the insurance requirements. My 2nd return visit with Dr. Allam is this Friday, and I can't wait. The next two weeks following that appointment I have all my other appointments with the cardiologist, pulmonolgist, etc. to start all of my medical clearances. I'm hoping and praying they all go smoothly for me!
I've given this surgery a tremendous amount of thought, and I just hope
everything goes smoothly for me so its possible to have it done! I look forward to meeting everyone on this forum and I'll be attending the support group meeting tonight hopefully! I'm really looking forward to it!
Take Care,
~Karen

Welcome Karen to our family. We are a great bunch and we are here to answer any questions that you might have. Don't be afraid and please use this board as much as possible. Someone is always around to answer all your questions. We can tell you what we have experience before and after our surgeries. As far as medical that can only be answered by Dr Allam himself. So write your questions down so when you visit with him in his office he can answer whatever Medical concerns or questions you have. Also Nanette is the only one that can help you with appointments and insurance questions so calling her at the office would be your best bet.
I hope that you have a smooth journey ahead of you. Making the choice to have this surgery is one of the best choices that I can say personally was best for me. I hope that you will feel the same way after you have had it.
Don't get depressed or bummed out if you hit a bump in the road to getting your medical approval. Most people hit them the best thing to do is just keep thinking positive and if they tell you The insurance company that is to do something do it. Like Nanette said at our meeting last night she can't do anything to change what the insurance companies want from there members. I'm sure Nanette will or has already explained all that to you.
Good luck and please keep us posted. Try to make as many meetings as you can before your surgery date and definitely after it. Dr. Allam has a great support group with some wonderful people.
Good luck.

Welcome! You have made the first step for the BEST of your life! To echo Reginas' comments, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. We're all a bunch of loosers here, and are here for your support. I also did alot of research on the surgery for a couple of years before I made that step, and I can tell you that it was the best decision of my life. I have never looked back and would (and HAVE!) recommended Dr. Allam and the surgery for over 3 years now. Please feel free to call me (cell 631-495-4947) if you need someone to talk to and PLEASE introduce yourself to me @ the next meeting...(I missed this month's meeting). Welcome aboard! vxt

Hey, Regina! Thanks for the response! Its so nice to meet other people that have gone through it already and know what I'm feeling, before and after the surgery! It's a great comfort to see that there are a lot of others out there that are or have been in the same position in their lives at one time!
I look forward to getting to know you all!

Hey Christine! Nice to meet you! That's pretty neat you're from East Hampton as well! Thank you so much for your phone numbers, I'll be sure to call you if there is any time I might need to talk to someone who has been through this before! That's so nice of you.
I actually wasn't able to attend the May Group meeting like I intended. My husband had to work later than usual that night and I unfortunately missed it. But I will definitely be making the June meeting and look forward to meeting you all there.
I actually went to my 2nd visit with Dr. Allam this past Friday and I have a surgery date set for July 2nd! Woohoo! So if everything goes well with my insurance, I'll be on my way to being a big LOOSER like the rest of you in no time!
